Chapter Board Responsibilities
President
Provides leadership to the local chapter consistent with state, area, and national Society policy, strategies and objectives. Effectively operates the chapter so that the needs of the members are met. Performs other duties as required by the local chapter's bylaws. Serve as a voting member of the WA State Council, a division of SHRM.
Immediate Past-President and SHRM Foundation Director
Advises the President and other officers and Board of Directors members regarding past practices, general operations, and other matters to assist in the smooth running of the organization. Educates, promotes, and represents the interests of the SHRM Foundation and its activities to the Chapter.
VP of Programs/President-Elect
Plans, organizes and orchestrates the chapter member program event speakers, facilities and catering. Performs duties of the President in his/her absence.
VP of Membership
Maintains the chapter membership contact; address lists through SHRM. Maintains stats on membership, welcomes new members to the chapter. Sends membership information out to potential members and contacts members at large to encourage them to join our chapter.
Secretary
Takes minutes at the board meeting, maintains chapter records, history and permanent records.
Treasurer
Safeguards chapter funds. Monitors the financial direction of the chapter. Helps to create our budget and tracks income and expenditures. Disburses funds for official chapter business.
Hospitality Director
Takes registrations for chapter meetings and coordinates the registration table at events. Sends out electronic announcements regarding chapter programs. Maintains registration records.
Media Relations/Marketing Director
Serves as chapter contact for local media on chapter related activities and human resources topics. Markets chapter events in local publications. Acts as administrator for chapter social media platforms.
Diversity Director
Helps members and their organizations gain a clearer perspective on the benefits of promoting diversity and administers the diversity awards program.
Government Affairs Director Monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis pending legislative, regulatory and legal action at the federal, state, and local level that may have an impact on the management of human resources. Presents a legislative report or update to the Chapter President and fellow chapter members. Informs elected officials of SHRM's position on legislation affecting the human resources profession.
Workforce Readiness Advocate
Monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis local activities concerning workforce readiness issues and plans and encourages chapter involvement and activities impacting the workforce readiness arena. Presents a report or update to the chapter president and fellow chapter members.
Certification / College Relations Chair Shares information with members on how to attain HRCI certification. Serves as liaison and support to our student chapter (PLU).
Web Administrator/Job Bank Coordinator
Maintains information about the chapter, as provided by the other chapter board members, on the chapter website.
Maintains and shares with chapter membership current HR job opportunities.
Succession Plan
Typically the VP of Programs is the next year’s president. This means the current VP of Programs normally moves into the chapter President for the following year.
