    SPS SHRM Professional Certification Scholarship

    The South Puget Sound Society for Human Resource Management (SPS SHRM) Chapter’s mission is to develop and connect South Sound Human Resource professionals by providing strategic and practical tools and resources. We actively engage our members to ensure our services are timely, innovative, and relevant. SPS SHRM takes pride in supporting its members in their professional growth and are leaders in all aspects of human resources. Through education and networking, we  elevate the value of HR professionals as partners in developing and executing organizational strategy. The SPS SHRM Chapter offers countless benefits for HR Professionals, including networking, sharing information about local and national HR news, special interest groups where like-minded HR professionals may stay current in their particular field of interest, monthly chapter  meetings with a variety of excellent speakers, and much more. 

    Achieving and maintaining professional certification in Human Resources is one way for HR professionals to elevate their standing in the profession. To encourage professional development of its members and to recognize the efforts of members to further their careers in the Human Resources field, the SPS of SHRM has established an exciting program to provide financial assistance to those current chapter members who sit for the PHR, SPHR, GPHR certification  examination offered through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) or the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification examination offered through the Society for Human Resource  Management (SHRM). 
      
    Applicant Requirements 

    • South Puget Sound SHRM Chapter member in good standing (primary designation)  
    • National SHRM member in good standing  
    • Qualified and eligible for certification 
    • Completed Scholarship Application by deadline 
    • Verification of registration for one of the qualified tests 

    Scholarship funds may be used to purchase test preparation materials, attend a certification preparation seminar, and/or pay the exam fee. This scholarship is a one-time award. Previous applicants are eligible to apply. Additionally, previous scholarship recipients may apply if pursuing an additional certification. 

    Funds for the scholarship are awarded within a specific calendar year. Recipients, who are eligible and apply for the scholarship, will only be considered once per calendar year. Multiple submissions by the same recipient will not be considered eligible for potential funds in the same calendar year,  which they have applied more than once.

    Scholarship recipients will be selected two times per year (April and September). A total of 4 scholarships will be awarded in a calendar year.  
      
    Applicants will not be considered eligible for the scholarship funds if applicant’s employer covers associated testing fees & other applicable fees in connection with any of the designated HR professional certification.

    Completed applicants will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee. If you need a reasonable accommodation to complete the application, please send us an email we can assist.  

    Review of Applications and Award Decisions 
    The Scholarship Committee will review all completed applications and award scholarships in amount  of $500 to cover certification expenses such as: testing fees, preparation courses or study materials  related to the testing exam. Verification of testing registration will be required. 
      
    Award decisions will be communicated to applicants directly. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the April and September SPS SHRM chapter meetings following awarding of the scholarship.  
      
    At the request of the Board of Directors, names and testimonials of scholarships recipients will be published on the chapter website, newsletter, or other applicable social media/public relations/marketing avenues. Recipients will be notified of the publication and usage of their testimonials.
